BoatRoutes covers the most popular cruising waters of the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia. Our database includes marinas, anchorages, marine parks, and connecting routes across the region.
Washington State
Section titled “Washington State”Our Washington coverage includes the full extent of Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and adjacent inland waters.
Key areas:
- Puget Sound — from Olympia north to Anacortes, including Seattle, Tacoma, Bremerton, and the Kitsap Peninsula
- San Juan Islands — Friday Harbor, Roche Harbor, Deer Harbor, and the surrounding anchorages and marine parks
- Strait of Juan de Fuca — Port Townsend, Port Angeles, Neah Bay
- Skagit and Whatcom counties — Bellingham, Anacortes, La Conner, the Swinomish Channel

British Columbia
Section titled “British Columbia”Our BC coverage spans from the US-Canada border through the Gulf Islands and up to Desolation Sound.
Key areas:
- Gulf Islands — Ganges (Salt Spring Island), Montague Harbour (Galiano), Bedwell Harbour (South Pender), and more
- Greater Victoria — Victoria Inner Harbour, Sidney, Oak Bay

What Is Included
Section titled “What Is Included”For each location in our database, you get:
- Location details — type (marina, anchorage, marine park), coordinates, amenities
- Routes — pre-computed routes to nearby locations with distance and time estimates
- Environmental data — tide and current predictions from the nearest NOAA station (US waters only; we do not yet have tide or current data for BC)
Data Sources
Section titled “Data Sources”Our coverage is built from official government data:
- NOAA Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) provide the coastline, depth contours, and navigational features for US waters
- NOAA CO-OPS provides tide and tidal current predictions for US stations
- OpenStreetMap provides the coastline data used for route planning in British Columbia waters, where NOAA charts do not reach

Coverage Expansion
Section titled “Coverage Expansion”We are continuously adding new locations and routes. Priority areas for expansion include:
- Additional anchorages in less-traveled areas
- More detailed coverage of the central BC coast
- Expanded passage and narrow-channel waypoints
